About

The "My Dingaling" Trap Remix, or "My Ding-a-Ling" Remix, is a remix song derived from a scene from The Simpsons in which a character sings a portion of "My Ding-a-Ling" by Dave Bartholomew on-stage during the school talent show before being forced off stage by Principal Skinner. The scene comes from season three, episode eight of The Simpsons and inspired a trap remix by DJ Suede in late 2015. Another remix of the song was popularized as an original sound on TikTok in November 2021. The DJ Suede remix gained further viral spread in August 2024, becoming the wider subject of memes on sites like X / Twitter.

Origin

"My Ding-A-Ling" is a song originally released by Dave Bartholomew in 1952 (shown below, left). It was famously covered by Chuck Berry in 1972 (shown below, right). The song's use of "ding-a-ling" refers to a bell, but makes use of a double-entendre, where it can also refer to a man's penis.

On November 7th, 1991, The Simpsons season three episode eight premiered, titled "Lisa's Pony." During the episode, a character with blue hair poorly sings a portion of "My Ding-a-Ling" during the school talent show and is quickly forced off-stage by Principal Skinner (shown below).

On December 20th, 2015, Dj Suede the remix god released a trap remix of the rendition of "My Ding-a-Ling" as sung in The Simpsons on SoundCloud,[1] garnering over 3.3 million plays in nine years. On January 8th, 2016, it was posted by YouTuber[2] Positive Sound Services, garnering over 23 million views in eight years (shown below). The YouTube upload also credits @entreproducer and @ayo_tae.

Spread

The remix gained viral spread over the following years, also inspiring further remixes and memes. On January 6th and 21st, 2016, YouTubers[3][4] JiggAerobics TV and Yvng Swag posted videos of people dancing to the remix, garnering over 2.2 million views and 100,000 views respectively in eight years (shown below, left and right).

On October 31st, 2021, TikToker[5] @adr_edits27 posted a portion of a similar remix of the song, garnering over 2 million views in three years. The song's original sound was used over 400,000 times on TikTok[6] in the same span of time, with some of the top examples of its use being dance videos (examples shown below, left and right). The sound seemed to experience its peak of use in November 2021.
