"My father died!" is a phrase that character Ryo Asuka uses in Chapter 1 of the first volume of the Devilman manga.
Context
After saving Akira Fudo, the main protagonist, and his friend, Miki Makimura from school thugs, Ryo drives Akira to his house in his father's car to show him something. When Akira asks if something is wrong, Ryo stays silent and calm before randomly shouting the phrase "My father died!". Akira reacts in shock, to which Ryo responds: "Because of that, I live totally alone. He was my only family."
In the 1987 OVA, "Devilman: The Birth", a similar situation happens, with Ryo saying "My father is dead." calmly, instead of screaming it.
Spread
When the Devilman manga was made available in english, many people created redraws and edits of the very page that contains the meme. While they are usually redraws, there's the occasional one featuring different characters and text.
