About

My Name Is Giovanni Giorgio refers to a series of remixes made from the spoken-word introduction to the song "Giorgio By Moroder" by Daft Punk. The introduction is spoken by Italian electronic musician Giorgio Moroder, who talks about getting started in music. He ends his monologue with "My name is Giovanni Giorgio, but everyone calls me Giorgio" before the main beat of the song begins. In remixes, Moroder says the line and various characters dance once the beat comes in.

Origin

"Giorgio By Moroder" is the third track on Daft Punk's album Random Access Memories, released May 20th, 2013.[1]

The earliest known parody of the song was posted March 9th, 2018 by YouTuber CowardlyDog13, who paired the song with a clip from Regular Show, gaining over 53,000 views (shown below).

Spread

It was not until roughly two years later that the format began gaining popularity. On January 3rd, 2020, YouTuber Chabelo CH10 posted a parody pairing the song with a GIF of Winnie the Pooh leaving his body, gaining over 657,000 views (shown below, left). On August 24th, YouTuber EcuadorianSarcastic posted a remix featuring Ecuadorian singer Aladino that gained over 1 million views (shown below, right).

Parodies saw a significant uptick in January of 2021, as more people jumped in on creating variations. Examples include a Rickroll version by Master Youngling posted January 11th (shown below, left) and a January 14th, 2021 version by RAM – Random Access Memes that also used Aladino (shown below, right).
