About

NES Princess Peach Sprite Redraws is a pixel art trend on X (formerly Twitter) and BlueSky that redraws the sprite of Princess Peach from the 1985 NES game Super Mario Bros. in different styles. The trend started in early-mid September of 2024, and has also led to other artists drawing these redesigns as modern digital art. The trend also inspired some artists to draw humorous interpretations of NES sprite Princess Peach, sometimes depicting her with a big Popeye-like chin and finger guns.

Origin

The trend started on September 9th, 2024, when Twitter / X[1] artist @JUSTIN_CYR posted a redesign of the sprite of Princess Peach from Super Mario Bros. (SMB) with a more slender figure, a more defined face, and wearing a more revealing dress. The artwork (shown below) received over 9,200 likes and over 845 reposts in five days.

Also on September 12th, X[3] user @DonMarramiau posted their version of the SMB Peach sprite, gathering over 8,000 likes in three days.

Similarly, I think the Mario Bros. have a potato nose shape in their OG form.
That aside, there's a debate for the sake of the era that this was designed on CRT's. I think it may have been mentioned in interviews or possibly described from an outside perspective how they wanted to get the silhouette of a mustached face to look good. The best I could do to visualize Peach's intended depiction is to learn shader combos…
