What It Means

The “niche meme flood” is when a TikTok community (or subgroup) gets catchphrases or clips from different movies, AI-edited clips, tv-shows, and other specific places and attempt to convert them into a “meme”. Its original purpose was to combat all of the more-known memes on platforms like TikTok by turning them into what is called a “niche meme”. It consists of taking the clip or scene the catchphrase it was originally from and make videos of them, mostly by adjusting the speed of the clip and other visual effects.

It’s kind of a reaction to the feeling that “mainstream memes are stale,” so users retreat into the weirdness and start re-using obscure formats until they become overwhelming.

Origin

Sources trace back to a video posted on the 27th of September, 2025, where user @beanboov on TikTok posted a video claiming it was a “niche meme”. The clip posted was originally from the movie, Home (2015 Film), and consists of one of the main characters, Oh (Played by Jim Parsons), said the hilarious quote: “Burrito Torpedo!”. This video is well known as what ignited this so called: “Niche Meme Flood”, and inspired other creators to do the same with other scenes from popular movies and shows.

Spread

Over the next couple of days, people started to make their own niche memes. Some notable examples are: “Grr Mondays”, “Pompom Tralala”, “Chicken Stars”, “The Candidih”, “W Speed”, “Somebody Better Call Google Maps”, and many other lesser known ones.
