On November 5th, 2024, Financial Times chief foreign affairs commentator Gideon Rachman reported that, according to a "usually reliable source," North Korean soldiers deployed to Russia to fight against Ukraine have been consuming vast amounts of internet pornography after getting unrestricted internet access for the first time in their lives. The post (shown below) garnered over 32 million views, 10,000 reposts and 86,000 likes on X[1] in two days.

Starting on November 5th, 2024, the report spawned jokes and memes about North Korean soldiers discovering online porn for the first time in their lives. For example, X[2] user @DmitryOpines posted a joke that gained over 200 reposts and 1,000 likes in two days (shown below).
