Obvio (English: "Obvious") refers to a catchphrase said during the 2019 Spanish movie The Platform (Spanish: El Hoyo). The expression appeared as an image macro meme months after the Netflix movie was released, showing a shirtless old man and the caption "Obvio."

Origin

On November 9th, 2019, the Spanish movie The Platform (Spanish: El Hoyo)[1] was released on Netflix streaming service. Spanish actor Zorion Eguileor, who plays the character Trimagasi, caught the audience's attention for repeatedly saying the word "obvio" throughout the movie. On March 6th, 2020, Netflix Espanã uploaded a new trailer[2] for the movie, which received 2.8 million views and 17,000 likes in three years. (seen below)

On March 28h, 2020, a scene featuring Spanish actor Zorion Eguileor with the caption "obvio" became a popular image macro on social media. One of the earliest posts of the meme was uploaded on Facebook[3] by the page Obvio Memes. The post (seen below) garnered 51 likes and 27 shares in three years.

YouTube[4] channel @MemeViral explained in a video posted on March 30th, 2020 that the image of the meme is not an actual scene in which the actor says "obvious," but a photoshopped version. The video (seen below) received 760,000 views and 1,700 likes in three years.

The image macro was featured on many meme pages across social media. For instance, the Facebook[5] page Obvio Memes posted an overlay text in Spanish of a conversation saying "my ex: are we back together?" with the boyfriend's response being the old man saying "obvious." The post (seen below, left) garnered 130 likes and 581 shares in three years. The Brazilian Netflix Twitter[6] account also mentioned the meme on April 2nd, 2020 with the caption "Is there anyone watching?" The post (seen below, right) received 31,500 likes and 3,900 retweets in three years.
