On May 4th, 2019, Instagram user lightskinmonte uploaded a comedy skit in which he pretends to see a 3D-animated rat and proceeds to threaten it, dance and jump around it.^[1] The video gained over 2.4 million views and 346,000 likes in three weeks.

Spread

On May 12th, 2019, Instagram user notkinghill posted an edit of the video in which the 3D rat was replaced with Dancing Detective Pikachu. ^[2] The video gained over 361,900 views and 48,800 likes in eight days.

In the following days, numerous Instagram users posted more edits of the video, with notable versions made by in.oma,^[3] largetrap^[4] and igotsilver.^[5]
