Oi Mãe Linda ("Hi Beautiful Mom" in English) is a catchphrase said in Portuguese by a Brazilian TikToker named @543joao. The account became a trending topic on the platform in August and September 2023 after CapCut videos featuring the family (mom, dad and two kids) went viral, with users creating an ironic fandom surrounding the boy, labeling him as a Sigma Male and using Patrick Bateman sounds in memes.

Origin

The TikTok^[1] account @543joao joined the platform on August 28th, 2022. The Brazilian family's first viral video,^[2] however, was uploaded on August 27th, 2023, in which the mom asks her kids to guess a riddle about the similarity between a drunk person and a snake. The kids promptly answer the riddle (shown below), amassing over 609,000 plays and 72,000 likes in a month.

After the riddle video went viral, the family went on to upload a series of similar content on TikTok, with some users noticing the unusual behavior of the boy and his catchphrase at the beginning of every video, "Oi mãe linda," which translates to "hi beautiful mom" in English.

In early September 2023, ironic fandom memes focusing on the Brazilian boy started to go viral on the platform. For example, TikToker @samuelzxkkjkofc's^[3] video using a CapCut template in an edit about the kid's look (shown below, left), which amassed more than 93,000 plays and 15,000 likes in two weeks. On the same day, TikToker^[4] @licka_0325 posted a fan edit video of the boy (shown below, right), receiving over 55,000 plays and 6,900 likes in two weeks.

The boy was also ironically labeled as a Sigma Male icon, with users posting fan edit videos comparing him to American Psycho character Patrick Bateman. For instance, on September 23rd, 2023, TikToker @skycornokkkj^[5] posted a fan edit with Bateman's quotes and clips of the Brazilian kid (shown below), amassing over 1.3 million plays and 235,000 likes in five days.
