15 Signs You're a "Sigma" Male is a series of Smoobypost parodies of the YouTube video "15 Signs You're a 'SIGMA' Male (SUPER RARE) & Is it Better Than 'ALPHA?'" The format gained popularity alongside other sigma male memes in June 2021 following a viral Cheems edit.

Origin

On May 16th, 2021, YouTuber[1] Alpha M. posted a video titled "15 Signs You're a "SIGMA" Male (SUPER RARE) & Is it Better Than "ALPHA"?" in which they listed 15 signs that could be used to identify oneself as a sigma male, a supposed classification for men who "play by their own rules." The video received over 264,000 views in two months (shown below).



On May 19th, Instagram[2] user cheemsitz posted a screenshot of the video's thumbnail, title and view count, replacing the image of the "sigma" male in the thumbnail with Cheems. The post (shown below) received over 15,900 likes in two months.



Spread

On May 28th, Instagram[3] user gourmet.cat.memes posted an edit of cheemsitz's meme, replacing Cheems with Big Floppa (shown below). The post received over 5,000 likes in one month.

Starting in early June 2021, the format gained notable spread on Instagram, later spreading to other social media platforms. For example, on June 2nd, Instagram[4] user smollbenis posted a version that gained over 7,000 likes in one month. On June 7th, Instagram[5] user deathgripshitposting posted a meme that received over 8,000 likes in one month (shown below, left). On June 26th, Twitter[6] user @SKULLHORNETS posted a Scrimblo Bimblo version of the meme that gained over 2,200 retweets and 13,100 likes in two weeks (shown below, right).



The Scrimblo Bimblo version was widely circulated in the following days, promoting the spread of the format.
