About

Okay but that's worse is an infamous line uttered by character Chidi Anagonye (played by William Jackson Harper) from popular TV show "The Good Place" as a retort towards a statement made by main character Eleanor Shellstrop (played by Kristen Bell). This line, as well as its followup You do get how that's worse, right? became reused as reaction images online in the form of two screenshots from the show combined into one, usually in response to statements, explanations or apologies that actually make a token situation worse that it initally was.

Origin

The first episode from the first season of "The Good Place", titled Everything is Fine was released on September 19th, 2016. Towards the middle, Eleanor reveals to Chidi that she shouldn't be in The Good Place with him and that a mixup must have happened with another person of the same name because she pretty much lived a depraved life. Chidi then asks what her job was, leading to the following exchange :

Chidi: So your job was to defraud the elderly? Sorry… the sick and elderly?
Eleanor: But I was very good at it. I was the top salesperson five years running.
Chidi: Okay, but that's worse. I mean, you… you do get how that's worse? Right?

An extract from the scene was uploaded to YouTube In december 2022 (shown below).
