About

Omegle Rizz, also known as Omegle Rizzing, is a slang term and genre of Omegle prank videos in which men try to "rizz" the stranger in a video chat by switching camera angles and using prerecorded edits. The trend became prevalent on TikTok and YouTube in late 2023 and was started by TikToker and YouTuber SlowSush. Going into September 2023, the edits in the trend became increasingly elaborate, such as edits that referenced Omar the Ref, also known as "You Alright Ladies?"

Origin

Despite Omegle videos with "rizz" in the title present on YouTube[1][2] in early 2023, precursor videos didn't utilize editing and camera angle switching associated with the genre. The Omegle Rizzing trend was predominantly started by TikToker and YouTuber SlowSush who uploaded his first Omegle Rizz video to TikTok[3] on July 17th, 2023, gaining roughly 6.8 million plays and 1.1 million likes in two months (shown below).

Spread

SlowSush continued to post videos of a similar nature to TikTok[4] in July 2023, culminating in a July 20th, 2023, compilation video posted to YouTube[4] by him that gained roughly 514,900 views and 18,000 likes in two months (shown below, left). Soon after, on August 15th, YouTuber[5] Ejay added to the trend with his own compilation video, receiving roughly 275,100 views and 7,000 likes in one month (shown below, right).

Around the same time on August 8th, TikToker[6] @tre2f started posting Omegle Rizzing videos that referenced Omar the Ref, gaining roughly 3.5 million plays and 520,500 likes in one month (shown below, left). Going into September 2023, @tre2f's "You Ladies Alright?" edits became increasingly elaborate, evident in a TikTok[7] shared on September 18th, which received roughly 7.4 million plays and 1.5 million likes in 11 days (shown below, right).

During the same timeframe, other notable creators of the genre were uploading equally viral videos, such as TikToker[8] @cart.3r and TikToker[9] @calamarishrimp, among others.
