OPSEC Level, also known as OPSEC DEMON, is a reaction image and series of memes depicting characters such as Pepe the Frog and V from V for Vendetta reacting to a person's level of online operational security (OPSEC). The meme originated on Soyjak.party and later spread to more mainstream social media platforms, including X / Twitter and TikTok.

Origin

The term "OPSEC" is short for "operational security," a military term for practices used to prevent adversaries from obtaining or piecing together sensitive information. In online communities, the term is commonly used to describe a person's ability to protect their identity and personal information online.^[1][2]

The meme typically presents Pepe and V as judging a person's OPSEC, with captions such as "OPSEC level: [rating]" or "OPSEC DEMON." Posts portraying strong OPSEC generally depict the characters as impressed or approving, while posts portraying poor or nonexistent OPSEC use the format to mock users who reveal identifying information.^[1][2]

Later iterations have also incorporated generative AI-generated images and videos featuring Pepe and V in exaggerated or surreal depictions of "good" or "bad" OPSEC^[1] (example seen below).

The original upload date of the video is currently unknown, although a reupload of the video was posted on April 18th, 2026, by TikToker @aethryn124, establishing that the meme was in circulation by at least mid-April 2026.

Spread

As the meme spread beyond its original imageboard communities, it became increasingly common on more accessible social media platforms. The phrase "OPSEC level" is used more generally as a reaction to either particularly good or particularly poor OPSEC, often humorously rating a person's efforts to remain anonymous.

For example, on August 24th, 2026, X^[4] user @Dr_crack96 used the term in a post that received over 127,330 views and 6,540 likes in four days.

Users began joking about the ridiculous ways in which someone could have their data and identity compromised online. On August 25th, 2026, X^[5] user @andytarded posted "opsec level: doxxed while screensharing," which received over 71,760 views and 4,400 likes in three days.

On August 26th, 2026, X^[6] user @catears124 posted a post that received over 157,110 views and 3,480 likes in two days.

Later that day, X^[7] user @jifysnjoked about getting doxxed by a relative's online obituary, which received over 152,100 views and 9,820 likes in two days.

That same day, X^[8] user @SkepIsTuff used the term in a response to a different user's post, which received over 61,000 views and 2,590 likes in two days.
