About

Kristina Chen (a.k.a YouTuber Tinaecmusic) is a webcam celebrity best known for singing karaoke versions of pop songs originally performed by 90s boy bands like the Backstreet Boys and N*SYNC. Since her YouTube debut in 2007, her performance videos have become a frequent target of ridicule and parodies on the web.

Online History

Chen's first karaoke video was posted on July 19th, 2007 via her YouTube account tinaecmusic[1]. The video features her singing and dancing to the acapella rendition of "Who Do You Think You Are" by the British pop group S Club. Though it wasn't the most popular video she's posted, it did pave her way towards YouTube stardom.

Reputation

According to her YouTube profile description, her musical style has been influenced by her aunt and teen-oriented pop singers like Kelly Clarkson, Rachel Stevens, The Backstreet Boys and Hilary Duff. As of July 2011, Chen's YouTube channel "tinaecmusic" has over 11,000 subscribers and 17 uploaded videos with 4.6 million views.

Chen's most popular video to date is her cover rendition of Zac Efron's "Bet On It", which gained nearly one million views in the span of four years. This was partially due to a video of Perez Hilton[2] mocking her in one of his videos, which has 550,000+ views itself.

Shortly thereafter, Chen took down her videos due to trolls mobbing her videos in response to the Perez Hilton's parody. In addressing the disappearance of Tinaecmusic, Hilton posted an apology video and explained that his intention was to "celebrate her."

After a short absence, Chen reemerged under a new YouTube account TinaChenandFriendz[3]. There, she posted a video in which she flashes her breasts at the viewer, saying "to all the sexy men out there." The video immediately became the target of harsh criticism and negative feedback, eventually leading Chen to apologize for her indecent exposure.

Current Activities

In March 2008, Chen reuploaded her videos to her tinaecmusic account and still continues to cover and even perform her own music, according to the MySpace[4] profile associated with username tinaecmusic.
