X11R5 is a modified Markov IRC chatbot that was shoehorned into using Identi.ca, an open-source alternative to Twitter popular with Canadian open source evangelists and people that hated Twitter in 2009. It makes a nominal attempt to NLP its way into making sentences but usually fails, and sometimes hilariously. It has since become one of the most followed accounts on Identi.ca, which is sort of like being the most popular band in the Yukon.
Ryan Finnie, X11R5's creator notes:
The "new" X11R5 on Identica has been a rousing success, and has developed a personality completely distinct from the IRC X11R5. He's even fluent in multiple languages! (English, German and Portuguese seem to be the most common.) He occasionally causes some controversy (for example, there is a very small chance that he will "re-tweet" a Markov'd version of someone's notice), but this almost always dies down when the victim realizes what he is. They usually even end up subscribing to him.
