About

Xiao Xiao, also known as the Chinese Kick Girl, Kick Girl or Chinese Junk Food Girl, refers to physically deformed Chinese girl who went viral on the TikTok page Chinese Junk Food (@chinesejunkfood2023) in September 2023 for kicking an older woman and drag performer holding a microphone who was asking her questions. The girl was nicknamed "Kick Girl" by FlopTok meme creators who made edits with her, comparing her to Jiafei. The girl's real name and identity is Xiaoxiao and she's originally from the Douyin page of Mei Niang Xinxin (媚娘欣欣新号) who posted a series of videos with her in late 2023. Xiao Xiao gained fan edits and memes on FlopTok going into late 2023.

Online Presence

Xiao Xiao's online presence started on February 21st, 2020, when her Douyin^[8] account @xiuzhenxiaox86 posted its first video to Douyin^[9] which received over 5,900 likes in three years (recording shown below, left). On March 10th, 2020, Xiao Xiao's account posted a video to Douyin^[10] which received roughly 128,000 likes in three years, becoming her first viral video on the app (recording shown below, right).

Xioa Xiao's account on Douyin continued to gain virality going into the early 2020s. Starting in mid-August 2023, Douyin^[1] user Mei Niang Xinxin (媚娘欣欣新号🌈) started to post videos with Xiao Xiao. The videos, which continued into September 2023, were seemingly clips from a longer LIVE in which Xiaoxiao was a guest star in her singing and dancing antics.

On TikTok

On September 6th, 2023, the TikTok^[2] page @chinesejunkfood2023 started to repost Mei Niang Xinxin's Douyin^[1] videos, with the first repost gaining roughly 16.2 million plays and 996,500 likes in six days (shown below, left). On September 10th, @chinesejunkfood2023 posted a TikTok^[3] of Xiaoxiao attempting to kick the LIVE's host, gaining roughly 1.3 million plays and 26,500 likes in two days (shown below, right).

Spread

Going into September 2023, reposts of the Douyin^[1] videos continued to go viral on @chinesejunkfood2023's TikTok.^[4][5] In turn, Westerners on the app started to discuss the videos and make memes using them, dubbing her "Kick Girl." For instance, on September 11th, 2023, TikToker^[6] @stinkyasher posted a video in which he officially named her "Kick Girl," gaining roughly 1.5 million plays and 340,700 likes in one day (shown below, left). Later on September 11th, TikToker^[7] @jiafeitheestallion made a FlopTok Nicki Minaj edit with Kick Girl, gaining roughly 2.2 million plays and 319,000 likes in one day (shown below, right).

Xiao Xiao's Chinese Account Gets Banned Citing Parental Abuse

On December 19th, 2020, news about Xiao Xiao's Chinese social media accounts being banned began to spread online. TikToker^[13] @candiselin86, who often covers Chinese social media trends on TikTok, shared that Xiao Xiao's Douyin and Kuaishou were banned citing allegations of parental abuse. The post gathered over 190,000 plays and 15,000 likes in a day (seen below).

Xiao Xiao Death Hoax

Soon after news of Xiao Xiao's Chinese accounts being banned emerged, internet users on X (formerly Twitter) and TikTok began spreading a yet-unconfirmed rumor that Xiao Xiao had passed away.

X^[16] user @lillianalanaaa was one of the first to post about Xiao Xiao's supposed passing, saying "fuck a gold plaque i want xiao xiao back💔" (seen below).

On December 19th, 2020, TikToker^[14] @shrekspookiebear3 posted a video "crying" over her death, gathering over 80,000 views and 4,000 likes in a day (seen below, left). On December 20th, 2023, TikToker^[15] @sheloveshooplaa3 posted a video expressing sadness about Xiao Xiao's supposed death, gathering over 120,000 plays and 30,000 likes in a day (seen below, right).

Fandom

Memes, discourse and reposts of Kick Girl videos continued to surface on TikTok going into September 2023. As fans learned her name, Xiao Xiao, they started making fancams of her, due in part to viral videos uploaded by the TikTok^[11] account @xiuzhenxiao.86 which reposted multiple videos from Xiao Xiao's Douyin.^[8] Many of @xiuzhenxiao.86's reposts gained millions of plays, such as one TikTok^[12] posted on October 2nd, 2023, which gained roughly 6.6 million plays and 102,600 likes in one month (shown below).

Xiao Xiao's Hairstyle

Xiao Xiao's Hairstyle is a TikTok trend inspired by the hairstyle of Xiao Xiao. Her unique hair, comprised of high pigtails sinched with numerous rubber bands or hair ties with loose pieces dangling down, was copied and shared in meme videos by Brazilians on TikTok, who called the trend "Penteado Xiao Xiao."
