About
Perfect Cell's Theme Remix is a popular remix of the character Perfect Cell's theme music from the animated show Dragon Ball Z. The remix was first uploaded to YouTube in a 2006 edit and again in 2008. The song featured in numerous fan edits and videos in the decade since, with fans often mistaking the remix for the official song. After years of discussions about the "mysterious" origins of the Perfect Cell Remix, YouTube user ALX Productions came forward as the creator of the remix in 2023.
Precursor
The Dragon Ball Z Funimation dub was accompanied by a score and soundtrack by a team led by Bruce Faulconer, who also made the official theme song for the season 5 villain Perfect Cell. YouTuber[1] Ravneet Dhatt uploaded the original theme song to YouTube on June 30th, 2009, gathering over 450,000 likes in 15 years.
Origin
The earliest known internet post featuring the Perfect Cell Theme Remix is a YouTube video titled, "Cell tribute:Cell theme(techno remix)," posted by YouTuber[5] demonspuppet on August 21st, 2006. The video gathered over 50,000 views in 18 years.
YouTuber[2] curlyhairdude535 uploaded a video titled, "DBZ – Perfect Cell Theme Remix" on May 30th, 2008. The video gathered over 24 million views in sixteen years, and was widely, and incorrectly, recognized as Perfect Cell's official theme song by many DBZ fans for the subsequent decade.
According to a video posted by YouTuber[3] ALX Productions on November 4th, 2023, the remix was originally used as music for Perfect Cell in the Quake III mod "Dragon Ball Quake." The song briefly fell into obscurity after the mod was shut down by Funimation, with the aforementioned YouTube reupload propelling it to popularity in the 2010s.
Spread
The Perfect Cell Remix featured in a number of AMVs and fan edits in the early 2010s, as seen in an October 18th, 2010 video posted by Wardarth[4] that gathered over 50,000 views in 14 years.
On May 1st, 2018, YouTuber[6] Friedrich Habetler Music posted an "epic" cover of the song, gathering over 9 million views in six years.
On July 29th, 2023, Twitter[7] (now X) user @krabpad posted a tweet that read, "Bro made a remix so lit that they gaslighted some of the DBZ community into thinking this was the actual Cell theme."
