Phone Call Interruption refers is a video remix series in which a video is interrupted by a phone call notification smartphone screen alerting the viewer to a call from a different cultural figure.
Origin
On January 3th, 2019, Instagram [1] user @largeblast uploaded a video of Crazy Frog calling while interrupting a video of Lucifersexdoll (shown below). The post received more than 15,000 views and 1,000 likes.
Spread
Three days later, on January 6th, 2019, Instagram user @yupanthony posted the same video of Lucifersexdoll with XXXTentacion calling). The post received more than 900,000 views and 50,000 likes before being deleted.
Over the next month, others on Instagram continued to share variations of the meme. For example, on January 15th, 2019, Instagram user @notkinghill shared a variation in which the characters Finn and Jake from Adventure Time interrupt the video (shown below, left). The post received more than 147,000 views and 15,000 likes in less than two days. On January 17th, 2019, Instagram sure @kiwi.vro posted a variation in which a call from the Queen of England interrupts a Pornhub video (shown below, right)
