Phone In Back Pocket Challenge is a series of TikTok videos featuring phone camera footage taken from the TikToker's back pocket. The trend began in March 2020 to catch people in public spaces staring at them and continued to be a popular trend on the platform through August 2020. Many videos using the hashtag #phoneinbackpocketchallenge feature videos parodying the trend.
Origin
On March 12th, 2020, TikToker heaven.burton uploaded a video of people looking at her back pocket while walking through Disney (shown below). The video gained over 6,200 likes in five months.

Spread
On March 23rd, 2020, TikToker theblonderunettes uploaded another video taken from a back pocket and garnered over 5.5 million likes in five months (shown below, left). On March 30th, TikToker specialkqueen uploaded a parodyusing photos of Harry Styles (shown below, center). The video received over 205,400 likes in five days. On April 2nd, TikToker jasmineoray uploaded another popular parody that accumulated over 59,700 likes in four months. The Daily Dot[1] published an article on the trend in August.
