Pour Me Another Drink Trend is a controversial TikTok trend that involves women lip-synching to a sped-up version of Morgan Wallen's song "Whiskey Glasses" while turning away from the camera, and then turning back with one or both of their breasts exposed. Videos associated with the trend were removed from the platform at the end of June 2023 after considerable backlash from many users, although parodies and commentaries continued to be posted through the summer. The trend notably shares many similarities to the Foopah Trend, which trended on the platform in the months prior to Pour Me Another Drink.

Origin

The original audio for the trend originated with TikToker @spedup_tiktok1, who posted a sped-up version of Wallen's 2018 hit song "Whiskey Glasses" on August 23rd, 2022 (seen below), receiving over 4,200 likes and 750,000 views in one year.^[1]

Since many videos were largely taken down after initially appearing around May and June 2023, it is unclear where the more risqué postings of the video originated. However, it seems as if by mid to late June, the trend had reached saturation and had been reported numerous times by various users. At some point around June 23rd, all videos featuring nudity were taken down by TikTok.

On June 29th, TikToker @katelynthesahm posted a video criticizing the trend while describing how it was done and exactly what it was for those who did not have context (seen below, left). On June 24th, TikToker @whatmandi posted a video parodying the trend and making fun of people who chose to do it (seen below, right), receiving almost 2,600 likes and almost a quarter of a million views in two months.

Spread

Parodies of the videos that spread in June 2023 showed the disapproval of many who found their For You pages inundated with unexpected nudity. Many women posted about the consequences that their boyfriends would suffer if they heard the audio coming from their phones associated with the trend.

For example, in a June 23rd, 2023, TikTok that received over 2 million views and nearly 180,000 likes over two months, @belldaviss claimed her boyfriend would become a "missing person" if she heard the audio on his phone (seen below, left). Similarly, @k0uvr made a video of her explaining the situation to her boyfriend, which received over 126,000 likes in two months (seen below, right).^[6]

Others were outraged that TikTok did not take down the videos participating in the trend sooner, calling the decision inappropriate given the presence of children on the platform. Some also accused TikTok of maintaining a double standard and applying content moderation rules to some users but not to others. For example, TikToker @blessm710 (seen below) criticized TikTok policy on June 23rd, earning almost 33,000 views and 1,000 likes in two months.^[5]
