About

Proof that Not Everything Can Be an Album Cover is a catchphrase referenced in a TikTok trend using the "Album Cover" CapCut template in which users attempt to take photographs that would make bad album covers to prove that not everything can be an album cover. The trend, often set to "Money" by The Drums, is similar to the "Proof that Everything Can Be an Album Cover" trend and gained notable virality on TikTok in early 2023.

Origin

The trend began as early as July 5th, 2021, when TikToker[1] @iamthemuffinm4n posted a video using @HiAini's "Album Cover" CapCut filter in a video captioned, "Proof not everything can be an album cover," set to "Money" by The Drums, where she takes photos of random things to try and make bad album covers, garnering over 10 million views in two years (shown below). This is the earliest known viral example of the trend.

Spread

The trend continued to spread over the following years, seeing resurgences in virality. For example, on September 28th, 2021, TIkToker[2] @charlotte__martel posted a version of the trend that garnered over 8.1 million views in two years. On August 19th, 2022, TikToker[3] @69philly69 posted a version that gained over 11 million views in six months (shown below). Many times, the videos inspire comments about how the photos would make good album covers.

The trend became increasingly popularized in early 2023, resulting in numerous viral examples. On January 30th, 2023, the Voros Twins posted a version of the trend to TikTok[6] that garnered over 3.2 million views in a week (shown below).
