Pushing Thumb Edits refers to exploitable memes made of a PNG format showing two arms pressing their thumbs into an object. The image grew popular in June of 2024, as memers added the arms in various images, as though they were coming from the viewer's POV, similar to Cheek Grabbing Material.

Origin

On May 31st, 2024, Twitter / X^[1] user @dEi_pft uploaded two PNG images of arms outstretching their thumbs with a caption roughly translated as "Please do as you wish to lift up your cheeks." The post received over 17,000 reposts and 104,000 likes in two months (shown below, left and right).

Spread

Starting in early June 2024, the format grew popular in early June 2024 on Twitter / X, with people using it in POV memes. For example, on June 2nd, 2024, Twitter / X^[2] @kai2187 uploaded an edit of Batman's eyes being pushed in. The post received over 2,100 likes in two months (shown below, left). On the same day, Twitter / X^[3] user @JonAiart uploaded an edit of an anime girl's nose being pushed. The post received over 4,400 likes in two months (shown below, right).

On June 2nd, 2024, Twitter / X^[4] user @SekAI_AIart uploaded an edit of an anime girl with the hands grabbing her mouth. The post received over 1,600 likes in two months (shown below, left). The next day, Twitter / X^[5] user @qianyuzhu2 uploaded an edit as if the viewer was massaging an injured character. The post received over 12,000 likes in two months (shown below, right).
