On August 26th, 2019, the official Star Wars YouTube account published a "Special Look" of the film Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker that included a shot of the character Rey unfolding a double-sided lightsaber. The video received more than 12 million views in 24 hours (shown below).

Spread

Following the release of the trailer, people online began joking about the design of the lightsaber. One of the most popular examples includes a video that redesigns the lightsabers a "Swiss Army Knife", which was published by Action Movie Kids, and re-uploaded as a GIF to Reddit by ^[1] Down_In_The_Void, receiving more than 61,000 points (89% upvoted) and 1,000 comments in 24 hours (shown below).
