About

Eric Butts' Rise of the Skywalker Reaction Video refers to a viral video in which YouTuber TheEricButts records himself having an emotional reaction while watching the trailer for the upcoming film Star Wars: The Rise of the Skywalker. Following the release of the video, Butts was widely mocked online for crying during the trailer, with many questioning his masculinity and using pejoratives like "Cuck" and "Soy Boy".

Origin

On April 12th, 2019, Butts uploaded a video titled "REACTION! Star Wars Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker – Teaser Trailer #1 – Daisy Ridley Movie 2019," in which he excitedly watches the trailer for the film, during which he is shown tearing up during portions of the clip (shown below).

Spread

On April 13th, Twitter user @handovertheBR55 tweeted a reupload of the video, referring to Butts as a "soybag" (shown below).

On April 14th, Twitter user @stclairashley[2] reposted the video, claiming that "Star Wars and super hero movie obsession culture has revealed a whole new population of undateable men" (shown below). In response, entrepreneur Sam Hulick replied "don't be jealous because your soulless carcass is unable to achieve anywhere near the level of passion and pure joy this guy can."
