The "Robocop on a Unicorn" image was photoshopped and posted to photo sharing site Flickr on January 15th 2008 by Olav Rokne. After attracting thousands of views among the Flickr community, the photoset found its way onto Buzzfeed.com, Neatorama, and Digg.

A few pieces of impressive original artwork were created by early members of the Flickr pool, but the act of placing Robocop on a unicorn soon spread web-wide.

By late Ocbtober, 2008, "Robocop/Unicorn '08" was a popular politcal spoof. Following the election the Robocop on a Unicorn meme lost momentum, but still pops up on random forums from time to time.
