Scarface 'Counting Money', also known as X After Inventing Y is a Twitter meme that captions a scene from the 1983 film Scarface. The clip is often tweeted with a caption describing a fictional scenario where members of a profession are celebrating scamming the world by inventing something that makes their profession worthwhile, such as "Archaeologists after inventing dinosaurs."

Origin

The scene used in the meme comes from the 1983 film Scarface,^[1] at the beginning of the "Scarface (Push it to the Limit)"^[2] music montage (shown below) in which Tony Montana quickly rises to wealth after killing off the former drug lord Frank Lopez. It starts off with Alejandro "Alex" Sosa talking with Tony Montana and laughing with each other over the phone, which is both preceded and followed by money counting machines counting up Tony's drug money.

Memes using the scene first appeared on Twitter in September of 2022. On September 12th, 2022, Twitter user scottwilks posted the scene with the caption "UK florists since Thursday",^[3] which satirized the death of Queen Elizabeth II. The tweet (shown below) received over 5.8 million views and over 229,000 likes in one week.

On September 14th, 2022, Twitter user JokerOnline posted a caption of the scene with "Archaeologists after inventing dinosaurs".^[4] The tweet (shown below) received over 1.2 million views and over 41,000 likes in four days.

Other Twitter users would follow JokerOnline's caption to use as a snowclone. On September 17th, 2022, Twitter user Kevin Finnerty (@timeimmemorial_) posted a caption of the scene with "The Sopranos after inventing Italians".^[5] The tweet (shown below) received over 51,000 views and over 2,000 likes in one day.

On September 18th, 2022, Twitter user Lawrence Hamtil (@lhamtil) posted the scene with the caption "Chiropractors after inventing crossfit".^[6] The tweet (shown below) received over 160,000 views and over 3,200 likes in less than one day.
