About

Shooney's "16 Carriages" refers to a Stan Twitter clip of Shooney Da Rapper inside a boxing ring screaming and then swinging her arm to the beat of Beyoncé's "16 Carriages" song. The meme was posted on X / Twitter in June 2024 and was mostly used as a reaction video among fans of the singer and the LGBTQ+ community. In mid-November 2024, the "16 Carriages" meme gained virality on TikTok, inspiring a trend in which people replicated Shooney's arm swing, syncing with the music chorus and humourous text overlay to express their feelings.

Origin

On June 28th, 2024, X[1] user @riiverdancestan uploaded the earliest known version of Shooney's "16 Carriages" meme, synchronizing her scream and arm swing with Beyoncé's "16 Carriages" song. The video (seen below) amassed more than 52,000 views and 1,400 likes in five months.

Spread

The Shooney Da Rapper clip became a popular Stan Twitter reaction video, mainly used to celebrate an achievement. For example, on July 19th, 2024, X[2] user @heyyarnolddd posted Shooneyy's "16 Carriages" meme as a reaction to her favorite couples reaching the final of the reality TV show Love Island US. The tweet (seen below) received roughly 10,000 views and 621 likes in four months.

In early November 2024, Shooney's "16 Carriages" meme gained significant popularity after Beyoncé received 11 Grammy nominations[3] for her Cowboy Carter album, which inspired TikTok users to replicate Da Rapper's gestures in comedic video skits.

For instance, on November 10, 2024, TikTok[4] user @jelks posted a series of texts about things he hates appearing on the beat of "16 Carriages" while mimicking Shooney's arm swing (seen below), which garnered over 981,000 plays and 245,000 likes in two days.
