Smile Gets Bigger As You Scroll refers to a series of Twitter threads in which stans post photos of their favorite celebrity in order starting with a smirk to, eventually, a big smile. The threads became popular on Twitter in May 2020 and typically involved at least four images of the celebrity.
Origin
On May 16th, 2020, Twitter user @ADOREJIMlN[1] posted a thread captioned, "a thread of jimin smiling but his smile gets bigger as you scroll" (shown below). The tweet garnered over 120 likes in 12 days.
Spread
On May 22nd, 2020, Twitter user @harrymoonchild[2] posted a long thread of Harry Styles photos with the caption "Harry Styles smiling but his smile keeps getting bigger as you scroll down" (shown below, left). The tweet gained over 45,800 likes and 9,800 retweets in six days. On May 25th, Twitter user @thedaviddoes[3] tweeted a Chris Evans variation which accumulated over 4,400 likes and 1,100 retweets in three days (shown below, right). StayHipp[4] published an article on the trend.
