Smudged Lipstick Trend, sometimes called I Think I Like You Best, refers to a trend on TikTok in which people haphazardly apply their lipstick and smudge it before panning the camera over to their partner and showing them to be covered in kisses. The trend is set to the song "K." by the band Cigarettes After Sex and has since been parodied to show people kissing their pets or spoof characters instead of their partners.

Origin

On November 15th, 2016, the band Cigarettes After Sex posted their song "K." to their official YouTube channel,[1] gathering over 53 million plays in over 6 years (seen below).



On October 22nd, 2021, TikToker[2] @suislidechan2 posted the song to TikTok, gathering over 1.1 million plays and 170,000 likes in over a year (seen below, left). The earliest known instance of a TikToker participating in the trend took place on January 31st, 2023, when TikToker[3] @natt.garciaa posted a video with her dog covered in lipstick marks, gathering over 2.5 million plays and 400,000 likes in over a month (seen below, right).

Various creators adopted the trend in consecutive days going into February 2023, with TikToker[4] @ohmy.ilysulli posting a video on February 1st, 2023 participating in the trend and gathering over 300,000 plays and 98,000 likes in a month (seen below, left). On February 3rd, TikToker[5] @gosienao then posted a video participating in the trend as well, gathering over 290,000 views and 50,000 likes in a similar timeframe (seen below, right).

Also on February 3rd, 2023, TikToker[6] @natt.garciaa posted a video participating in the trend, gathering over 2.3 million plays and 300,000 likes in a month (seen below, left). On February 9th, TikToker[7] @valeluuuupp posted another example of the lipstick trend, gathering over 2.8 million views and 400,000 likes, also in a month (seen below, right).
