About

The Snowman is a snow sculpture, created to the likeness of a man.

Origin

The origin of the first snowman is unclear, However, it should be noted that Bob Eckstein, author of The History of the Snowman documented examples of snowmen from as early as medieval times. The earliest documentation he found was a marginal illustration from a work titled Book of Hours[1] from 1380.

Spread

The idea of the Snowman grew through being subjected to mainstream medium, which help transform the snowman into a symbol of winter. One example of this would be the famous children's song "Frosty the Snowman"[2], which helped cement the snowman a symbol of the festive period.
