Origin

The first known image of the Soup Time frog was posted on September 27th, 2017 by Twitter user @froghentai[6] (formerly @energeticfroggy and currently @frogecchi). The image simply features the frog, soup and the text "soup time." The account (and tweet) have since been deleted.

A cropped version of the Soup Time frog was posted on November 1st, 2017 by Tumblr [4] user teathattast. This is the version of the image that is more widely shared. The post (shown below) received more than 70 notes in less than one year.

On November 18th, 2017, YouTuber Timotainment uploaded an short video based on the Soup Time image, linking @froghentai's image as the original in the description. The video (shown below) received more than 134,000 views in less than one year.

On December 6th, Tumblr[5] user pemsylvania posted an image of the Soup Time frog next to an image of an animated frog from the video game Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp making soup. They commented on the video "uncanny." In less than one year, the post (shown below) received more than 29,000 notes.

That month, Timotainment posted a video of Soup Time playing on repeat for one hour. The post (shown below, left) received more than 28,000 views.

On March 29th, 2018, YouTuber Bepis posted a video of the Soup Time frog edited into a video of a lizard drinking from a cup. The post (shown below, right) received more than 23,000 views. When uploaded to Instagram, [1] the video received more than 60,000 views and 6,600 likes in less than four months.

On April 21st, Urban Dictionary [2] defined the meme as "Used as the meme called soup time is described as a frog such as dat boi but with his loved soup or campbell's chunky beef."
