About

Squeakers are kids who talk in a high pitched squeaky voice on online consoles and/or PC games. Squeakers are often a target for trolls because most of them will get mad at the slightest of insults. They're also known for using profanity to insult a player when they're upset or angry, and sometimes spontaneously. They are most popularly known for playing games from the Call of Duty franchise, but can be found in any online game that is considered for a more mature and older demographic.

Origin

Existing in online gaming spaces prior, Urban Dictionary acquired a formal definition[1] for the term on August 20th, 2006, by the user DJ Amireh, which gives an example of a Squeaker playing World of Warcraft (shown below).

y f > squeaker A gamer on voice chat that has not hit puberty or has an abnormally high-pitched voice. They will often use a rediculous amount of profanity to try and offset their lack of audible maturity. Dude, that squeaker on WoW gave me a really bad headache! by DJ Amireh August 20, 2006 Ib 577 198 FLAG

Spread

On March 27th, 2011, the YouTuber[2] Burnsy uploaded a compilation video of him in a game of Call of Duty: Black Ops making several people upset, including a younger kid. At the end of the video, he receives a voice message from the kid who loudly gives him a profanity-infused rant, showing one part of being a squeaker, and earning 360k views in 10 years (shown below).

Videos of Squeakers continued to get made when they were in Xbox Live or other online lobbies, but in 2015 the Squeaker archtype was changed with the most well-known squeaker in history, SammyClassicSonicFan. SammyClassicSonicFan became very well known for uploading videos about the Mario and Sonic franchise, which would often devolve into him squeaking in the middle of a long-form rant about hating the games, hating fans, or being upset at something online. This is most exemplified in his July 15th, 2013 video 'Stop Hating On Sonic' which was re-uploaded[3] in 2015 and gained 2.1million views in seven years (shown below).

Squeakers continued to be a force mostly seen in niche communities and online lobbies, but their presence within memes continued to grow as a generation of squeakers grew into social media users and Redditors. On December 12th, 2019, the Redditor[4] Rose_Dragneel posted a meme to the Meme Economy subreddit depicting a Squeaker who had grown up and finally fulfilled his vow of Doin Your Mom, earning 500 upvotes in two years (shown below).

My Mom: Introduces me to her new boyfriend. That 12 year old squeaker on cod: ´Surprised to see me?
