Each sign contains a portion of the statement "Stay home so we can make COVID disappear like "Carole Baskin's Husband". Online, people have replaced the final two signs with different punchlines about things that have vanished from the cultural conversation.

Origin

On April 16th, 2020, Redditor ^[1] Snow776 posted the earliest available version of the image. Within one week, the post received more than 1,900 points (97% upvoted).

Spread

Hours later, Redditor^[2] clairecatherine posted the image in the /r/FellowKids subreddit, receiving more than 12,000 points (76% upvoted) and 135 comments in less than one week.

Shortly after the post went viral on Reddit, it began appearing on other platforms. On April 17th, Instagram ^[3] @death.to.the.false.emperor shared a variation about the tabletop game Warhammer 40,000. The post received more than 1,300 likes in less than one week (shown below, left). That day, Redditor^[4] tseng_e3 posted a variation about the game Brawl Stars. The post received more than 4,600 points (998% upvoted) and 150 comments in less than one week (shown below, center).

The following day, Redditor^[5] bluewords shared a variation about the conspiracy theories surrounding Jeffrey Epstein's suicide. The post received more than 97,000 points (91% upvoted) and 740 comments in less than two days (shown below, right).
