About
Bonk, also known as $BONK, is a meme coin on the Solana blockchain that's named after the bonk meme, which sees meme characters like Cheems getting bonked on the head with a baseball bat, hammer or other heavy object, sometimes accompanied by a cartoonish sound effect. Bonk was introduced to the cryptocurrency market in December 2022 on Christmas and saw a significant spike in interest in December 2023, continuing to rise in value and prevalence online throughout 2024 alongside other meme coins.
History
$BONK launched on December 25th, 2022, on the Solana blockchain. The cryptocurrency has a website, bonkcoin.com,[1] with information on the meme coin.
On August 8th, 2023, the Bonk Inu YouTube[2] channel posted a video explaining the backstory of $BONK, garnering over 15,000 views in a year.
Market Performance
According to the crypto-tracking site CoinMarketCap,[3] the total supply of Bonk is 74.14 trillion BONK. As of late October 2024, the market cap is 1.6 billion.
At its peak in May 2024, the coin reached a cap of 2.77 billion BONK. On October 23rd, 2024, the meme coin reached a valuation of $0.0000218.[3]
Online Presence
On December 8th, 2022, the @bonk_inu X[4] account was launched, which is the official X / Twitter account for the meme coin that describes itself in its bio as, "The community token of web3." As of late October 2024, the account has over 329,000 followers, sharing content related to the cryptocurrency such as an animation on October 16th that received over 71,000 views and 950 likes in nine days.

On December 27th, 2022, the subreddit /r/BONKcoin[6] was created by Redditor bananabrownie, accumulating over 3,700 members by late October 2024.
On October 22nd, 2024, CoinGape[5] reported on the South Korean crypto exchange Upbit listing Bonk, resulting in a reported 7 percent increase in the coin's price.
