Cave Story Rap Album refers to Cave Story: A Lyrical Walkthrough, a hip-hop concept album by Lee=Emcee², also known as CaveStoryRap, that acts as a walkthrough for the video game Cave Story. Lee=Emcee² started writing the album in 2009 and slowly worked on it over the next 17 years, up until its 2026 release date. The album was released for free on March 5th, 2026, and went viral that month for its high quality, '90s hip-hop sound, and its unique concept.
History
On March 5th, 2026, musical artist Lee=Emcee² uploaded Cave Story: A Lyrical Walkthrough to a playlist on the CaveStoryRap YouTube[1] channel. The album consists of 21 tracks, each walking listeners through a section of the video game Cave Story.
The album was also uploaded to Bandcamp, but has since been removed by the artist, who did not like Bandcamp's purported policy on giving users limited free downloads before automatically making the album paid.[2] After removing the album from Bandcamp, the artist shared a link to a free download of the album on Google Drive.[3]
CaveStoryRap shared the link to the album's YouTube playlist on X[4] on March 11th, 2026, writing, "After a significant amount of time, chipping away on and off, I have finally completed what I'm sure is the first ever 'Lyrical Walkthrough' for what I'm sure is one of the best games ever… Cave Story." The post gained over 9,000 likes in two days.
That day, the artist made a post on the /r/cavestory[5] subreddit, gaining over 370 upvotes in two days. The post explains that the artist has been "chipping away at" the album since 2009.
