The Earthquake Bed or Anti-Earthquake Bed is a bed designed to keep people safe during earthquakes, particularly in the event of a building collapsing on top of them. The concept was created by the Turkish company Dahir Insaat in April 2015, garnering attention online over the following years. The product's concept video went viral on Reddit, Twitter / X and Facebook, among other sites, for its perceived claustrophobic design, leading to memes and jokes referencing it appearing online.

On April 23rd, 2015, the Turkish company Dahir Insaat uploaded a video on YouTube[1] revealing their "Anti-EarthQuake Bed" concept idea that is designed to keep sleepers safe during earthquakes. The video (shown below) amassed over 133,000 views and 1,500 likes in eight years.

Spread

The claustrophobic and aggressive way the machine works received online attention over the following years when the Dahir Insaat concept video was posted on YouTube. For instance, on February 4th, 2019, Yahoo's X[2] page shared the earthquake bed concept video (shown below), amassing more than 25,000 likes and 19,000 retweets in five years.

On January 2nd, 2024, the TikTok[3] page @one.minute.to.lea shared the earthquake bed video (shown below, left), amassing over 30 million plays and 668,000 likes in a month. On December 12th, 2023, TikTok[4] user @doctormyro posted a reaction video of the real-life earthquake bed being tested by people (shown below, right), which garnered more than 14 million plays and 453,000 likes in two months.
