Gamer Girl is an upcoming full motion video (FMV) thriller video game by Wales Interactive. The game is set in the world of online video game streaming in which the players acts as a moderator for a female streamer named Abicake99, leading her through a series of dangerous situations. Shortly announcing the game, Wales Interactive defended the game against criticism about the game's content.

History

On July 16th, 2020, Wales Interactive tweeted the trailer for the game (mirror below). They wrote, "Gamer Girl is a chilling FMV thriller game set in the world of online streaming, featuring a multi-branched narrative and real-time chat simulation. Going live on PC, PS4, Xbox One & Switch this September." Wales Interactive later deleted the tweet.^[1]

Following the announcement of the game, Wales Interactive tweeted a statement about the game, explaining that the game aims to raise awareness about online abuse. They wrote,^[2] "Gamer Girl is about the impact user comments and actions have on a streamer’s mental health and wellbeing. The reason why FMV Future created the game was to raise the issue of the toxic environment which can often appear online behind the anonymity of a username. Without giving away too much, Gamer Girl is an empowering story of a female streamer who, with the help of her moderator friend, battles the trolls and -- overcomes-- the toxic characters in her stream" (shown below).

The following day, Twitter user @Slasher tweeted the trailer with the caption, "the official PlayStation account released a trailer for a new FMV game before quickly deleting it i present to you: GAMER GIRL." The tweet received more than 420,000 views, 4,900 likes and 2,900 retweets in less than 24 hours (shown below).
