KFConsole is a gaming PC marketed as a console designed by KFC Gaming and Cooler Master. First teased in June 2020 and initially believed to be a hoax, the console was introduced as an upcoming product in December 2020, with its technical specification revealed.

History

On June 12th, 2020, KFC Gaming, gaming-oriented social media accounts of fast food restaurant chain KFC, posted a video teasing KFConsole, a KFC-branded gaming console with a built-in compartment for heating up chicken. The post received over 4.4 million views on Twitter,[1] 1.5 million views on YouTube[2] and 171,000 views on Instagram[3] in six months (shown below).



Starting on December 18th, 2020, KFC Gaming made[4][5] a series of four countdown posts leading up to December 22nd introduction of the console, developed by KFC Gaming and PC hardware company Cooler Master. On that day, KFC Gaming posted a video that received over 2.4 million views on Twitter,[6] 500,000 views on YouTube[7] and 132,100 views on Instagram[8] in six days (shown below).



Also on December 22nd, KFC Gaming[9] posted several photographs of the console, with Cooler Master[10] launching a page containing technical characteristics of the device. In late December 2020, the announcement of the console was covered by multiple news outlets.

Technical Characteristics

On December 22nd, 2020, Cooler Master[10] unveiled technical characteristics of KFConsole. The build includes an Intel Nuc 9 Extreme Compute Element, an ASUS graphics card and a 1TB SSD. The console is set to support ray tracing, VR and resolutions up to 4K.

Online Presence

Following the initial teaser video, the KFConsole saw a minor presence in memes. For example, on June 13th, 2020, Redditor[11] ManWalkingDownReddit made a You Can't Defeat Me meme (shown below) that received over 4,000 upvotes in /r/dankmemes in six months, with a June 14th repost by iFunny[12] user Magoth gaining over 38,200 smiles in the same period.

In December 2020, following the trailer video, the console became a popular subject of discussions and videos. For example, on December 24th, YouTuber[13] ReviewTechUSA posted a video about the console that gained over 236,000 views in five days (shown below, left). On December 26th, YouTuber[14] videogamedunkey posted a humorous video about the console that received over 2.2 million views in three days (shown below, right).

Razer Toaster is an electrical toaster announced by American gaming hardware manufacturer Razer. Started as a Facebook joke and reused by Razer as an April Fools joke in 2016, on April 29th, 2019, Razer officially announced that the product will be put in production.

Xbox Mini Fridge

Xbox Mini Fridge is an upcoming mini fridge product from Microsoft that copies the design of the Xbox Series X gaming console. Inspired by memes that compared the design of the console to a fridge, the Xbox Mini Fridge was announced at E3 2021 in June 2021.
