About
Kipo and the Age of Wonderbeasts is an animated series created by Dreamworks Animation. It follows Kipo, a 13-year-old girl searching for her father in a post-apocalyptic urban wasteland. The series has been praised for its plot, characters, and LGBTQ representation.
History
The series is based off the webcomic "Kipo" by Radford Sechrist, who also serves as the show's showrunner.[1] The animated series adaptation was announced on June 13th, 2019[2] (trailer shown below). The series was developed by Bill Wolkoff.
On January 14th, 2020, the first season of the series released on Netflix. The series has ten episodes, each running roughly 24 minutes.
Reception
The show was widely praised upon release. io9[3] praised it as a must-watch based on its music and character design. Collider[4] called it a "classic in the making." io9[5] and Pride[6] both praised the way the show handled the outing of a gay character, noting it was nice that the show handled making a character queer in a casual way.

The show quickly began a fandom online. The show's Facebook page[7] gained 400 likes within 10 days of the show's release. The show's subreddit[8] gained 1,000 subscribers since its December 12th, 2019 creation.
