You don't have to, the game is meant to introduce new people to the franchise.

But to be on the safe side probably yeah. It's a good a starting point as any and if you don't like the game play there are plenty of videos of the story/explaining the story.

Definitely not Library of Ruina though. That's a direct sequel to Lobotomy Corporation and will spoil the ending of Lobotomy Corporation right off the bat.

Do I recommend this game to others? Absolutely yes (while also kinda no?). Mostly yes. So here's the pros and cons, and the TLDR because this got really long.

TL;DR
"Best gacha game I've ever played. Eat your heart out Genshin." -a non-gacha fan.
It's not a game for everyone, but try it. The story IS for everyone and you would do yourself a disservice if you missed it by not at least checking it out on YouTube.

PROS:
-Mobile Game Cast you will actually give a shit about
As someone who generally grew a distaste for gachas and there endless characters, Limbus Company stole my heart and ran with it. ProjectMoon managed to fix the problem with most gacha by choosing quality over quantity. And they did this by giving us a bus full of twelve armed psych ward patients. Personally adore every single one of these wackos.

-The writing. Just… The writing.
The highest praise I can give to a game story is when I NEVER skip the cutscenes. Even when I've seen it before. If you don't play the game, that's fine. But you HAVE to see the story. It would be criminal not to.

-Shockingly high production value
For a studio with only 30 employees (3 of which work in a sandwich shop) this game is really gorgeous. The sound design and music have no right to be this good. Mili music will never not transcend my soul.

-Complete Voice Acting
While all Korean, the quality on display in the performances is truly a sight to behold.
