The game received wide praise upon release. As of September 13th, 2021, the game has a rating of "Very Positive" on Steam based on 8,800 user reviews. Critics were also favorable towards the game. Game Informer dubbed it "the best game you might sleep on this year," writing, "Library of Ruina features enthralling enemies, enchanting music, progressively more complicated mechanics and options, and a really dark, weird tale that ebbs into everything else about it. This journey into the bizarre is refreshing, revitalizing, and reinvigorating."
