Princess Peach Showtime is an upcoming video game to be published by Nintendo for the Switch starring Super Mario character Princess Peach. It will be the first Nintendo game focusing on Peach for a Nintendo home console. After the game's reveal at a June 2023 Nintendo Direct and a full trailer during a September Direct, the game drew significant interest and fan art, particularly because it will feature Peach in multiple outfits fitting various professions.

History

In a June 21st, 2023 Nintendo Direct, Nintendo briefly teased that a video game starring Princess Peach was in development.[1][2]

On September 14th, 2023, Princess Peach Showtime was revealed in a Nintendo Direct with a trailer (shown below). The game appears to be a 3D, side-scrolling game and will notably feature Peach taking on multiple roles that change her outfit, including a swordfighter, a detective and a martial artist.



Online Presence

After the game's title and trailer reveal, fans on social media began producing fan art focusing on the various outfits Peach would wear in the game. For example, on September 14th, 2023, user @thegreyzen[3] posted art of the martial artist Peach as Chun Li, gaining over 1,700 retweets and 6,800 likes in one day (shown below, left). The same day, user @36srkn[4] posted art of Swordfighter Peach, gaining over 11,000 retweets and 34,000 likes (shown below, right).

I think I can finally articulate why this looks so great:
OK, so Shigeru Miyamoto has never been shy he based Mario off Popeye. He loves the "variety show cartoon world" aspect of Popeye, where Popeye/Olive/Bluto can be bakers or swashbucklers or kung fu masters or detectives or anything else the writers want. And that's what all these promos for Peach Showtime have NAILED, ten outta ten!
