About

Samurai Shodown (サムライスピリッツ, Samurai Spirits in Japan ) or sometimes abbreviated SamSho, it's a 1vs1 fighting game series developed by SNK in the year 1993. The franchise is knowed for its gory gameplay, the old japanese atmosphere and for being one of the first fighting games that used the mechanics of weapons on combat. It also has counted with varius titles over the years and some mangas and animes adaptations as well.

History

The franchise counts with 12 main titles in total .The first game of the franchise Samurai Shodown was launched in the year 1993 for the Neo Geo arcade and later was ported to a different amoung of consoles.
On the year 1994 the second entry Samurai Shodown II would be released and just like its predecessor it was launched on the Neo Geo arcades and on various platforms later on.

On 1995 Samurai Shodown III: Blades of Blood was launched originally for the arcades and later for Neo Geo, Neo-Geo CD, Playstation, Sega Saturn, and the Game boy
On 1996 the fourth title Samurai Shodown IV: Amakusa's Revenge was released first into the arcades and some time later for the Neo Geo, Playstation, Sega Saturn and other systems.

In the year 1997 Samurai Shodown 64 was launched for the Hyper Neo-Geo 64 arcade systems, it was the first entry of the series that used 3d graphics and the first 3d fighting game that SNK made.
One year later in 1998 SNK released Samurai Shodown 64: Warriors Rage for the for the Hyper Neo-Geo 64 arcade systems as well but like its predecessor, the game would be a japan exclusive.

In December 1999, Samurai Shodown: Warriors Rage was launched for The original playstation on japan and in North America on the year 2000.
In October 2003, Another 2D graphics based fighting game was released Samurai Shodown V originally for the Neo Geo arcade systems and the Neo Geo console years before it got in other platforms like the Xbox, Playstation 2, Playstation 3 and the Nintendo Switch years later.

1 year later in 2004, an upgraded version of Samurai Shodown V was released for the arcades and the Neo Geo console, it was called Samurai Shodown V Special and years later versions for the Xbox one, Playstation 4 and other platforms were released.
On 2005, Samurai Shodown VI was released for the arcades in japan and On 2006 in North america and a version for the Playstation 2 was realesed later.

On 2008, A new title was launched called Samurai Shodown Sen (also named Samurai Shodown: Edge of Destiny) For the Taito type x arcade systems, On 2009 for North America and later in that same year a version for the Xbox 360 was released in japan and on 2010 for North America and Europe.
On 2018 a new game was announced for the franchise Samurai Shodown (2019) the game would launch on 2019 For the Xbox One and Playstation 4 and some months later the versions for the Nintendo Switch and pc.
