About

Sengoku Basara is an action "Hack n Slash" video game series created by Capcom based around the "Sengoku" period of Japan history from a more radical, stylish and fictional point of view by its creators.

History

There have been four core Sengoku Basara games in the series. The first came out on July 21st, 2005 in Japan. Art was done by Makoto Tsuchibayashi, known for his work on the first Devil May Cry game. The Second "Sengoku basara" came out on July 27th, 2006 in Japan. A expansion named "Sengoku BASARA 2 Heroes" came out in November 29th of 2007.




Sengoku Basara 3 came out on July 29th, 2010 in Japan and in the EUA on October 12th, 2010. A expansion named Sengoku BASARA 3 Utage came out in November 11, 2011. The fourth Sengoku Basara came out on January 23rd, 2014 in Japan.



Other Media

After the success of the first games in the series, the series received adaptations for anime and manga. The series also got a film adaptation, Sengoku Basara: The Last Party, in 2011.

Reception

Only the third game in the series was covered by Metacritic, and its PS3 and Nintendo WII releases received mixed scores of 61 and 65, respectively. Critics generally found the game offered little innovation and had frustrating issues with sound and camera work.[2]

Online Presence

Sengoku Basara has a Wiki page[1] and a page on TV Tropes.[3] On YouTube, the game was played on an episode of Game Grumps that gained over 499,000 views, as well as Press Buttons and Talk, the Let's Play channel started and featuring ProZD. The game also has a small subreddit with 152 subscribers.[4]
