Sonic the Hedgehog: Project '06, or Sonic P-06 for for short, is a fan made gameplay-focused remake of the infamous Sonic '06, done by ChaosX. It aims to significantly improve gameplay and visuals while bringing in several new additions and restoring cut content.

Origin

The first build was released in April of 2019. According to ChaosX, he hasn't actually ever played the original game before and had to build this project entirely from the ground up.
As of the end of 2023, he has completed all three of the main campaigns, with only the bosses and final story left to be done.

Spread

The project has amassed tons of good will on sites like Reddit, Twitter, and Youtube. 'Bickuribox12' uploaded five videos on each new update as they came out.


'J's reviews' made a video citing P-06 as "the best Sonic game ever made."

Somecallmejohnny did one of his spotlight videos on it.

'Stelmo98' is a speedrunner for the game. In early January of 2024, he uploaded the following video:

I played Sonic 06 last year because I had heard about how truly awful it is. It is a game that's so horribly broken that it's not built for you to actually win, so many times I only passed a difficult part because I broke the game so hard that I clipped through the wall which got me into the next part of the game. It's fucking amazing. Sonic 06 is a game that was built to be the ultimate Sonic game to the point where it was literally just called "Sonic the Hedgehog" by these madlads. All the cool gameplay ideas they came up with are there, all the stories are there, all the characters are there, nothing was cut or compromised, the game was "Feature Complete". But the whole project was ruined thanks to Sega cutting the team that could've optimized the game and did QA testing for a shittier Wii game.

Honestly, taking away the jank to make a "Good game" out of Sonic 06 ruins the charm weirdly enough.
