About

The Tesla Robovan refers to a concept car and upcoming Tesla vehicle called the Robovan that's advertised as an all-electric, self-driving van. The Robovan has a sci-fi aesthetic similar to the precursor Cybertruck. It looks like a windowless capsule with black and silver paneling. A real Tesla Robovan was unveiled at the October 2024 "We, Robot" event at Warner Bros. Studios in Los Angeles, California. CEO Elon Musk was present at the event. After the showcase of the vehicle, the Robovan sparked discourse around the internet and also became the subject of various memes.

History

In May 2017, Elon Musk's Boring Company released images of an all-electric self-driving van.[1] Years later, on September 3rd, 2021, Musk's Tesla announced the "Robo Van" (later becoming stylized as "Robovan") in a company meeting.[2]

This is a good design

For a Roomba. As an actual practical road vehicle, this is one of those things I can just tell is garbage just by looking at it. Where the hell are it's wheels? How does it drive on anything besides dry, flat well-maintained asphalt? Judging by the number of seats it's supposed to be for maybe public transport, why would any company buy this vehicle over a likely cheaper conventional vehicle?

The only customers I could see for this thing are wealthy tech bros who want a more "advanced" limo, or a sci-fi theme park with a lot of money to shell out for a shuttle service.

This looks like something a movie storyboard artist would come up for the background of a sci-fi movie, with only aesthetics in mind and no concern for the actual physics and regulations behind such a vehicle.
Oh, wow, one half of this sentence makes an awful lot of sense.
