The One Piece (Netflix Remake) is the name given to the Netflix re-adaptation of the One Piece manga by Eiichiro Oda. The re-adaptation, being done by Wit studio of Spy x Family fame, has older fans of the series excited and already discussing possible changes to be made.

History

Ever since the original Fullmetal Alchemist and its Brotherhood remake, fans have been asking for enhanced remakes of existing properties that had pacing issues due to catching up to the manga, including Naruto and One Piece. On December 17th, 2023, the official Netflix YouTube^[1] channel uploaded a teaser that One Piece was getting 'the Brotherhood treatment', earning over 300,000 views in four hours (shown below).

Online Presence

Fans of the series took to the announcement with glee, excited for new fans to get into the series as well as fixing complaints about the current one. One reason is that the current One Piece series began 25 years ago, which can make earlier episodes off-putting for many newer anime viewers. On December 17th, 2023, the TikToker anirealist0^[2] uploaded his thoughts on the matter, bringing up the pacing issue that many fans have with the current anime run (shown below).

The topic of a remake of the East Blue saga made fans look back for filler episodes in which flashbacks to the older episodes were done. On January 26th, 2023, the TikToker mangapage21^[3] uploaded a side-by-side comparison showing the older animation of the first episodes with how the current anime handled those scenes in flashbacks, making fans excited for what better animation for the entire saga would look like (shown below).
