About

The Save-Ums! is an exciting, CGI animated, adventure world bursting with thrills, comedy and challenges. This is a new kind of entertainment platform for preschoolers focusing on issues of empathy, the nature of cause and effect and the dynamics of technology literacy.

The Save-Ums are little adventure heroes who live, quest and play in a fantastical world of animals, space ships and jet packs. This is a world of universal appeal, a world of adventure and understanding.

From "Save-Ums Central", their adventure compound by the sea, the crew – Jazzi, Foo, Noodle, Ka-Chung, Custard and B.B. Jammies along with their pets, the "puffs", – monitor the sky, the land, the sea, even outer space! They are on the lookout for any opportunity to save the day. The Save-Ums are a new breed of universally exciting action heroes for preschoolers. Some are purple. Some are yellow. Some are blue. All of them are sworn to help others! Don't ever mistake cute for ineffectual – small is powerful in this adventure world!

Their adventures take place in different worlds with fantastical creatures of all kinds. Whether it's teaching Olena Octopus to tie her many shoelaces, finding Winston Whale's glasses or helping Raymundo and Peque Ant feed a baby, The Save-Ums come to the rescue and teach valuable lessons. Preschoolers will learn to come up with solutions to simple problems with cooperation, as well as the principles of cause and effect, all while being in a safe and bright environment.

History

On February 17, 2003, the show first aired on TLC as part of the Ready Set Learn programming block in the United States. The show also aired on CBC Television as part of the Kids' CBC programming block in the Canada on March 11, 2003.

A worldwide licensing and merchandising push for DHX Media's animated television series The Save-Ums! is imminent judging by the spate of new licensing agents signed up to rep the preschool property abroad.

In deals negotiated through The Sharpe Co., worldwide licensing agent for the series, Copyright Promotions has been signed to represent the show in the U.K., France, Spain, Portugal, the Benelux territories and Italy; Licensing Plus has been tapped for Australia; Newman International will oversee efforts in New Zealand; and Plus Licens will handle Scandinavia and Eastern Europe. Germany's Super RTL has acquired the show for broadcast in addition to merchandising rights for Germany, Austria and Switzerland.

The show has proved an audience-winning hit for broadcasters already airing the show. Debut ratings have grown by more than 500% and 2002 ratings have tripled in many key demographics.

The show aired daily on Discovery Kids with excellent ratings. Only a month after its premiere on Discovery Latin America, the show is already among the top five rated Discovery Kids programs (kids 4-11) in markets such as Brazil, Mexico, Venezuela and Chile.

Aired in the U.K. on Five as part of its popular Milkshake block, where it has quickly become one of the highest rating pre-school shows. Universal Pictures has snapped up the U.K. home entertainment rights and is planning a full-scale retail release for early next year.

Jazzi

Jazzi is the leader of the team. Affectionate, her pigtails whirl like propellers when she is agitated. Her enthusiasm is contagious, so much so that it is usually she who leads the group's actions. Her popular meme is "People, have a plan". Even though she is so agitated, she does not neglect her little brother, the little B.B. Jammies, seen as the mascot of the gang. Since he is still a baby, he can hardly solve problems alone, always counting on the help of his friends.

Foo

Foo is the very sensitive, practical and fair team. Her manner of speaking is sweet and direct. Her popular meme is "You and Foo".

Noodle

The smartest boy of the team is Noodle, responsible for piloting the Subchopper. Reserved and talkative, he looks at each option before embarking on an adventure, and always strives to remind his companions how things work. His popular meme is "I'm a Puff".

Ka-Chung

Ka-Chung is the strongest boy. Considered the "clown" of the team, he is mischievous, entertaining and has a big heart. His catchphrase and meme is to shout "Ka-Chung!" when he is very happy, giving somersaults and shaking the ground. He navigates the Ka-Drill.

Custard

A yoga practitioner, Custard is a cool, philosophical boy. He is always in a good mood and uses his personal experiences to communicate and relate to others. He is the pilot of the Zoomer and takes the rest of the team on the adventures. His popular memes are "Total hero stuff" and "We're in the hero business", as well as his worst meme Echo!.

Video game adaptation

During Children's Day, an action-packed video game based on the show was announced by Luna Minami. It would be developed by Sonic Team in cooperation with DHX Media and published by Sega for the Nintendo 3DS, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, PS4 and PC (via Steam). Unlike the original series, the game will be produced with visual effects by Marza Animation Planet.

Due to Luna deciding that Noodle, Ka-Chung, Custard, B.B. Jammies, Andre, Oscar and Tyrell being voiced by boys are stupid, they will be voiced by girls, making them sound the way they sounded in season 1.

Not only that the game features characters from the original series, but also features new characters such as Cloe (alien girl and one of the Save-Ums), Neri Mermaid, May Lin (Jazzi's mother), Benton Polar Bear, Bernadette Polar Bear, Norman Polar Bear, Patches Polar Bear, Beaky Penguin, Pecky Penguin, Chrono, Hubbles, Aurora, Seti, Captain Bluebeard (the main villain of the game), Shady, Balding, Mutiny, King Edward, Queen Penny and Princess Lola (a descendant of the seven shrine maidens who is a damsel in distress).

Unlike in the original series, the Save-Ums will now explore Ice and Space Worlds. Not only that, but they also will have fighting style, along with powers, skills and abilities, which they can be used to attack enemies.

The game will have a mixture of gameplay styles from Sonic Adventure and Sonic Heroes.
