About

The Unicum Guides are a series of YouTube that feature humorous reviews of vehicles and weapons in the video game World of Tanks. These videos cover various vehicles in World of Tanks in an MLG style of how to properly play them, and what crew skills and equipment to use for each. The term "unicum" denotes a player who has an extremely high winrate (higher than 60%) and/or a 2450 WN8 rating according to WOTLabs. The videos spawned a parody series and other

History

On December 7th, 2015, YouTuber Sliphantom published the earliest Unicum Guide, "The Unicum Guide to the M4A1 Revalorisé." The post received more than 377,000 views in less than five years (shown below).

Over the next year, Sliphantom continued to post videos. On January 11th, 2016, they posted the "The Unicum Guide to the Löwe." Within five years, the video received more than 520,000 views (shown below, left). Months later, they published a guest video by YouTuber PixPax, "The Unicum Guide to the E100." The post received more than 538,000 views, the most views on the channel (shown below, right).

Impact

These guides have become popular amongst the World of Tanks community, inspiring similar guides created by other World of Tanks players HakuDrive and Tomah4wk, particularly after Sliphantom ceased making Unicum Guides (example below).

These guides have even spawned a similar set of videos for World of Warships such as the "How To" series by Yuro. On August 16th, 2016, Yuro published the video "How to Scharnhorst," which received more than 1.1 million views in less than four years (shown below, left). The following month, on September 3rd, they published "How to Dunkerque," which received more than 815,000 views in less than four years (shown below, right).

ThePurpleguy123 has created a series of YouTube videos inspired by the Unicum Guides, but for the Forza Horizon series. This series is titled "The Horizon Guides".
