The Witcher 4 is an upcoming open world role-playing game developed by the Polish video game company CD Projekt RED for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X. The game was announced during the December 2024 The Game Awards event, replacing the previous protagonist Geralt with Ciri as the playable character to lead the new chapter in The Witcher series. The Witcher 4 has no release date announced as of December 2024.

History

On December 12th, 2024, CD Projekt Red[1] revealed the first trailer for the new RPG saga The Witcher 4, which shows Ciri (seen below) fighting a monster called the Bauk to save a small village. The trailer was pre-rendered in a custom build of Unreal Engine 5, which received roughly 7,000 views and 9,700 likes in a few minutes.



Online Presence

The trailer for The Witcher 4 immediately went viral on the internet, sparking many discussions and anticipations among fans of the series. For instance, on December 12th, 2024, X[2] user @mvdpire posted a fancam celebrating the announcement of Ciri as The Witcher 4's protagonist, which amassed over 24,000 views and 1,000 likes in less than an hour.


On the same day, Redditor[3] u/sammyjo802 joked that anti-woke people would use female protagonist reveal and "make it fit their agenda." The post (seen below) amassed more than 49 upvotes and 11 likes in less than an hour.

On December 13th, 2024, X[4] user @CerberusXt uploaded a screenshot of The Witcher 4's trailer, writing "which still frame of Ciri, mid animation, all the grifters will use to compare it to her design in Witcher 3 and whine about wokism and the fall of western civilization." The post (seen below) amassed more than 766,000 views and 36,000 likes in a few hours.
